Tips for OA of the hip or knee

If you have osteoarthritis in the hip and/or knee there are many treatments that you could try to relieve your symptoms:

  • attend one of our self-management courses and/or seminars
  • if you are overweight loosing five percent of your body weight can have a positive effect and can noticeably reduce your symptoms. Ensure that you consult your GP before undertaking any diet or exercise plan. You may also benefit from consulting a dietician
  • aids or supports to help you throughout the day. Your physiotherapist will be able to help you decide what is best for your situation
  • pain relieving medication. Consult your GP and Pharmacist for advice on what is appropriate for you
  • exercise such as cycling, walking, water exercise, strength training and tai chi can help reduce your pain levels
